Pacific EV has a complete battery management system, available with two varieties of cell modules and a single Electric Vehicle Control Module.
The shared features are:
  • Prevent every cell from under- or over-voltage
  • Balance cells during charge
  • Automatically reduce throttle to protect the batteries
  • Disable the DC/DC converter if it is over-discharging batteries
  • Disable charger if is over-charging the batteries

EVCM -- Electric Vehicle Control Module

PEV's Electric Vehicle Control Module (EVCM) connects to the cell modules which detect battery problems and any devices capable of drawing power from the batteries, forming a complete battery management system. Unlike other products, the EVCM is specifically designed for use in single or low-production runs of electric vehicles and provides the safety of a production EVCM, while reducing the design and wiring time of even the simplest Electric Vehicle.

An EVCM is analogous to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) in a gasoline automobile. It monitors the electric vehicle motor and controller to prevent damage to them and to prevent dangerous situations for the driver and passengers.

  • Detects controller failure and automatically disengages emergency contactors
  • Cuts power whenever the brake is applied, meaning anyone with zero training can stop the car
  • If the brake is held and the throttle released, the accelerator can then be reapplied to begin accelerating the vehicle without rolling backward down a hill
  • If the throttle does not return to its zero value, the EVCM detects this fault and safely slows the car down until repair is made
  • Controls any charger to continue charging until the batteries are full, then cuts power
  • New! J1772 compatible! Interfaces with proximity switch to deactivate charger when disconnecting
  • Works with any 0-5k ohm throttle or 0-5V throttle as input or output
  • Can drive a controller requiring 0-5k input with a 0-5V throttle sender, or vice versa
  • Has 4A relay for driving main contactor coils or any other function
  • Has 1A 300Vdc relay for controlling KSI or any other function
  • Has a buzzer output for informing the driver on low or high voltage conditions
  • All relay timing can be modified by the user!
  • Six inputs can be configured as Fast Fault Shutdown, Full Charge indication, Brake Light, Potbox Switch (for detecting throttle faults), Start signal, Run signal, or Low Power/Valet input
  • Includes one 400Vac 30A relay for disconnecting the charger AC connection.

ittyBMS -- Simple, Easy Battery Management System

The ittyBMS is a lower-cost cell module capable of preventing overcharging or overdischarging of a lithium battery cell. It comes in a convenient package capable of fitting any standard prismatic cell from 40Ah through 200Ah, or can be supplied with two ring lugs to mount on any desired battery size.
  • Leaves the center of the battery open, allowing you to hold down the batteries with a simple mounting bar!
  • Can protect cell up to 400C charging rate
  • 1.5 AMP (1500mA) bypass capability -- our competitors are 200mA...
  • Thermal limit protection of the bypass circuit
  • All parameters are fixed at the factory
  • You can request your own high and low set points prior to shipping
  • Our recommended parameters are 2.5V-3.9V hard limits, a lower soft limit of 2.8V, a bypass voltage of 3.60V, and a full-charge level of 3.55V
  • Signals when full charge is reached
  • With our other equipment, supports any charger which will reach the bypass voltage multiplied by the number of cells, so you can choose a charger based on its other features rather than any special curves available
  • This cell unit works with our integration board for throttle control, and over/undercharge protection

On the left is a negative-post ittyBMS. The wire is colour-coded to attach to a positive post. The cable with white and yellow wires connects all ittyBMS cell modules together, and to PEV's Electric Vehicle Control Module.
ittyBMS modules mounted on Thundersky cells
With an even number of negative- and positive-post ittyBMS modules, the center of the batteries are left wide-open for hold-down bars.

Silicone is used to protect against wire damage due to vibration. Boards are also sealed against environmental contamination.

PHEV BMS -- Simple BMS for bicycles and Enginer Plug-In Prius Kits

Pacific EV's BMS for Enginer Plug-In kits is an easy replacement for the unreliable BMS supplied directly from Enginer. It requires the driver do nothing while using the car -- no monitoring, no playing with switches, just driving. First time installation can take from one to four hours depending on your skill and tool organization. We recommend it only for people who are comfortable cutting and stripping wires; if not, please talk to your local installer. Please read are user and installation manual below!
